Adult Education
The Arvada Fire Protection District’s Adult Education program includes several subjects. We are always willing to come out to special interest groups, such as Home Owner’s Associations and church groups, to talk about home safety or whatever they would like for us to talk about. But we do have several programs that are set programs that we offer.
For more information or to schedule you training, contact the Public Education office at 303-424-3012 or by email.
Statistics from the National Fire Protection Agency show that 95% of all homes have at least one smoke detector but that over half of all fire related deaths happen in the 5% of homes without detector. Also, in one-quarter of the reported fires in homes equipped with smoke alarms, the devices did not work. Households with non-working smoke alarms now outnumber those with no smoke alarms at all.
When the firefighters stop by, they will be able to check your existing detectors, recommend locations for future installations, and install one detector per floor if a functional detector does not exist.

Every year, firefighters are required by the Fire Code to go to each of the businesses in Arvada to make sure that the business owners are maintaining a safe work environment for their employees and customers. When requested to do so, we will also come to your home and check for potential safety hazards. While we can not force you to make any changes, we will recommend changes in behavior when we potential risks. This inspection is meant solely to help keep your family safe in your own home.
While most people would clean their home for guests, we recommend that we see your home just as you live. You may clean an area that you may not normally keep clean and it may make us miss an area that will become a potential hazard after we leave.

Did you know that older adults age 65 and older are more than twice as likely to die in home fires as the average person? Also, older adults are more likely to sustain an unintentional injury inside their home than other people. To try to lessen these statistics, the Arvada Fire Protection District will come to talk to your group about things that are “watch outs” around the home.
