The voters of the Arvada Fire Protection District today passed ballot question 5A. The issue asked the voters to approve a property tax increase to replenish a diminishing budget.
In a race that was very close, with all of the votes counted, there are 18,238 (56.7%) “YES” votes and 13,926 (43.4%) “NO” votes.
“Our plan during this entire process was to let the voters decide if they were willing to pay a little more in property taxes to improve their emergency response,” said Arvada Fire Chief Jon Greer. “We have heard the voters and will do what they have told us to do. We are ecstatic with the direction and support that the voters have given us.”
The Arvada Fire Protection District is a special district that covers the majority of the city of Arvada, the northern portions of the city of Wheat Ridge that are on the north side of Clear Creek and small portions of unincorporated Jefferson County. As a special district, over 87% of the budget is funded by property tax.
