CPR & First Aid Classes

 

The Arvada Fire Protection District is proud to offer CPR and First Aid classes for non-profit organizations.  All of Arvada Fire’s instructors are certified through the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI).  In fact, we use ASHI to certify all of our firefighters in CPR.  For more information including pricing and student number minimums, contact the Public Education office at 303-424-3012 or by email.

CPR
The subjects that are covered in this four hour class include:

  • Respiratory and circulatory system
  • Universal precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Emergency action steps
  • Introduction to the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (choking)
  • Psychological and emotional aspects of providing Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • The legal aspects of providing Basic Life Support (BLS)

At the end of the class, the students will be given a written and practical examination.  The written exam is multiple choice and requires an 80% for a passing grade.  Both the written and practical tests are pass/fail.  A few days after successful completion of the course, the CPR cards will be mailed to the students. 

 

First Aid
The subjects that are covered in this four hour class include:

  • The legal aspects of providing first aid
  • Universal precautions and personal protective equipment
  • The roles and responsibilities of the provider
  • Emergency moves
  • Physical assessment
  • Recovery positions
  • Multiple victims and disasters
  • Severe bleeding and shock
  • Wounds, burns, bites, stings, and dental injuries
  • Bone, joint, and muscle injuries
  • Sudden illnesses
  • Heat- and cold-related illnesses and injuries

Following this four hour class, students will be given a multiple choice exam that requires an 80% for a passing grade.  A few days after successful completion of the course, the CPR cards will be mailed to the students.
