Car Seat Program

The Arvada Fire Protection District is please to announce a service available for the parents of small children.  The Arvada Fire Protection District now has trained firefighters at seven of it's stations in the Arvada area who are ready to install car seats and to teach parents the correct and safe way to keep their child restrained in an automobile.  There are many valuable tips our firefighters can give regarding child restraint systems and will also teach the parent how to install the car seat in the vehicle to insure that the parent is comfortable installing the seat after our quick and easy session.  We encourage parents to call the Arvada Fire District Headquarters at 303-424-3012 for contact information for the fire station nearest you or for more information on the program.

Child Restraint System Statistics

l Motor vehicle crashes account for 42% of all unintentional childhood injury-related deaths.

l Over half of the occupants involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash under the age of 15 were unrestrained.

l Child Restraint Systems are 71% effective in reducing infant deaths and 54% effective in reducing toddler deaths.

l Child Restraint Systems are misused 8 out of 10 times.

 It's the Law!

Children must be properly restrained in a Child Restraint System until they are 4 years old AND 40 lbs.

All seats are designed and tested by the manufacturers to meet the Federal Motor Safety Standard 213.

All seats are then tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to be sure that the seats comply with the law.
