Station #1 protects the southeast portion of the City of Arvada and a northerly section of the City of Wheat Ridge. Built in 1953, this is Arvada’s oldest firehouse. Over the years this station has had many additions and has seen it’s share of members in and out of its doors. Today it is staffed by career and volunteer firefighters. Housing two fire trucks it also has a hose tower, kitchen, clubroom, sleeping quarters, and weight room / fitness area.
The part of town assigned to station one is not only the oldest but also the site to many new construction projects, facilities and urban renewal. Found in their coverage area is Olde Town Arvada, two rail lines and the I-70 & I-76 interchange. There are also many residential areas in southeast Arvada comprised of older style homes presenting a need for a greater knowledge base of building construction and the dangers that may lie within. The crews that service this area pride themselves on not only being in the heart of Olde Town Arvada but are also Arvada’s busiest Engine company running on average 200 calls a month. Calls for this area include fires, fire alarms, medical response and citizen’s assists. Engine Company 1 also conducts many business inspections and pre-incident plans throughout the year. These crews have developed a working relationship in Olde Town with the citizens as well as businesses to accomplish the absolute best fire prevention for the Arvada Fire Protection District.

Engine 1 being the busiest company in the district runs a large amount of calls on the interstate during bad weather conditions and due to a very high traffic volume. Engine 1 is a 2003 American LaFrance Eagle and can be seen nearly everyday in the Olde Town area running calls and taking care of other Fire Department business. The design of this engine allows crews to go to work quickly on a scene. Equipped with specialized tools for auto extrication including Hydraulic Spreaders, Cutters, and Rams, Airbags, Cribbing, Pneumatic tools, not to mention the 1500 GPM water pump and holds 500 gallons of water for quick attacks on structure and vehicle fires. Engine 1 is also equipped with a integrated foam system that allows foam use on fires reducing the amount of water used and damage caused to property.
Although the busiest company in Arvada, this station has been 100% involved with the development, training, and scenarios needed to shape a combination department. Their dedication to the citizens has proven time and again to be an anchor point of the Arvada Fire Department.
