
STATION SIX
6503 Simms Street
Station six is located at 6503 Simms St and can house six fire-fighting personnel 24/7. Station six being the headquarters for the department also plays host to the Chiefs, department staff, dispatch and the maintenance shop. The specialty for the station is maintaining the Survivair packs and equipment repair. Three certified technicians are responsible for maintaining all repairs on the departments 132 packs. This includes the yearly and rebuilding maintenance required to keep the packs up to date and in working order. Station members fit test all personnel for proper mask fit and repair any mask that is damaged. Equipment repair includes everything from broken flashlights to hose repair of any size. Station six has also taken on the responsibility of ordering bunker gear, first aid and janitorial supplies. Car seat checks can be performed on any day of the year at the station and the station also has a certified technician on one shift.
Station six ran over 2000 emergency calls in the year 2001. This station houses a 95 ft Sutphen ladder truck which is one of two ladder trucks is the largest in the district is responsible for the west side of town on all structure fires and alarms. There is also an Reserve Engine and a squad truck for responses including first aid, weed fires, car and dumpster fires, and car accidents.
At a Total cost of $600,000, this facility was built on the Districts pay-as-you-go policy and was placed into operation in 1975.
